Check out this lamp! Isn’t it FANTASTIC?
I know – NOT REALLY right? But, I know my fellow bloggers will immediately think “Great shape – easy to paint…GOTTA HAVE IT!” Well, at least that’s what I thought when I found them at a thrift shop. Yes, I said “them” – a set! But I had a special purpose for these. Deserving Décor (www.deservingdecor.org) had a BEFORE AND AFTER event with a lamp and nightstand.
These were perfect!
I taped the first lamp up and thanks to “encouragement” by a friend (LOL) – I spray painted it metallic brushed nickel.
I’ll be honest. I wouldn’t have chosen it! I wanted to go a color. But dang it – SHE WAS RIGHT! (of course because she is super smart like that…) It turned out “real purty.”
Now, I have to say this is a project that was absolutely inspired by pictures I found on Pinterest. I can’t help it – I just LOVE to try out cool projects once I see them. I always give credit where credit is due: This idea came from Steph’s Silver Boxes. Check her lamp out – it is ADORABLE!! http://stephssilverboxes.blogspot.com/2012/01/lamp-revamp.html
So a map shade it HAD TO BE. Luckily, I had maps on hand from our relocation several years back. And a couple white lamp shades that had seen better days. Some cutting, some measuring, some more cutting…if you do this – take your time! Trace the shade by rolling it and then add several inches on all sides before you cut.
I’ll admit I didn’t Mod Podge this. I used a little spray adhesive to get it flat and a lot of hot glue on the folded edges and….
PLEASE NOTE: If you are local to Bucks County – it turns out that both map lamps will be for sale at the same event as my mirrors. (Now I just have to makeover the OTHER ONE this week!!)
